The Move Community Guidelines

Commitment to open dialogue

The Move is a place for a frank exchange of ideas and dialogue, with the goal of creating more inclusive democracies. We at the Move envision that these conversations will lead to a democratic space that is made by and for more people than these spaces are currently for. We encourage you to keep this in mind as you read, contribute, and engage with one another

The Move is open to everyone. Everyone's contributions, including comments, posts and projects, help further discussion and collaboration around civic design and democracy.

Honest broker

The Move is an open forum where all ideas about democracy and civic design are welcome. We at The Move aspire to be an honest broker on these issues.

Respect and courtesy

We at The Move ask our members to engage with each other respectfully and courteously.  We will seek to frame controversial and difficult issues in a way that is both sensitive and respectful to all sides in the debate.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful community where members can openly share their thoughts, opinions and ideas.  We ask our members to hen use respectful language, be courteous to fellow members and respect the opinions of others.

When having animated discussions, remember to always be civil. It’s important to be aware of our own biases and to keep them in check during discussions. If you say something that you regret, be prepared to apologize.

Our community aligns its general approach to engagement with the behavioral guidelines that have been developed by the Wikipedia community. Another useful version of these guidelines is in Wikipedia's Etiquette page.

Value Statement

At The Move, we are committed to providing a safe and open community for members to:

  • Learn about democracy and civic design.

  • Connect with one another about the important issues and ideas facing our democracies.

  • Share and collaborate on ideas related to democracy and civic design.

We are also committed to doing this while:

  • welcoming unusual points of view and opinions with which we might disagree and

  • treating each other with courtesy and respect.

Upholding Community Guidelines

Community members are encouraged to respectfully and courteously hold other members accountable for following the Community Guidelines, and notify The Move team of any violations.

The Move staff reserves the right to restrict or remove the member privileges of users who violate these guidelines.
